I don’t leave home without my ukulele, to keep up with practice and hoping to find a uke buddy along the way. Sometimes that works out. The ship’s passengers were about half Australians escaping their winter. There were a group of about 50 Aussie musicians on board, including Adam Harvey. I played on the aft deck in between dips in the pool. Someone encouraged me to join a sing-along in one of the lounges. It turns out that some of the Aussie musicians were doing essentially an open mic for the passengers as an unofficial event. Adam was with them, on guitar and singing. I joined them with my ukulele and sang a couple of songs. This was my first experience (Fields of Gold) backed by professional musicians. The musician’s kids capably backed me on Pancho and Lefty.
