Eyes Of A Painter

Cover of 1981 Kate Wolf song.

I’m becoming something of a Kate Wolf specialist. This is my 3rd selection from the San Jose Ukulele Club’s songbook. I did not know my grandfathers very well. I have a memory at about 5 years old of my paternal granddad helping the family move. I watched him as he pondered the disconnection of a telephone, then proceeded to do so. Chart. I took the song on Zoom tour to:

Gilroy Ukulele Jam
The afternoon featured “I Can See Clearly Now,” a fun song to do on the ukulele, and ”Blowing in the Wind” by Curt. By the way, Netflix has “No Direction Home” streaming. “Rock and Roll Music.” “Drunken Sailor” was the rounder.

Ukulele Rebellion / Bronco Billy
Mary Cryns was an excellent host. Lots of Beatles as usual. The evening featured “Hard Days Night,”“I Saw Her Standing There,”“Across the universe,” covered Lawrence C. “Vehicle “ by the Ides of March done by Boston Lou. Stephanie performed a solo on fiddle. That 1st verse must have been creepy even in the early 70s. And “Can’t Buy Me Love.”

San Jose Ukulele Club

During the Saturday practice session, a question came up about playing well alone but messing up in public or on Zoom. The suggestion was to set the video so that the Zoom participants can’t be seen. I think building confidence by repeatedly performing in public is the most significant preventative of jitters. At the practice, I had a couple false starts. That does not usually happen to me. Gillian ran down the beginning of the song as a reminder. I was ok from then on. Some of the songs featured: “Dream River” by Brian W., “Have You Ever Seen the Rain” by Amy W. “Heart and Soul” by Bob S., “I Should Have Known Better” by Geoff and Veronica, “Sitting on the Dock of the Bay” by Brian, “How Can I Keep From Singing”, Amy W, “Those Were the Days” by Chris H., “Marrakesh Express” by Gillian, “Different Drum” by Karen, And “Longer” by Amy H, “I Want to Marry a Lighthouse Keeper” by Geoff and Veronica and “I’ll See You in My Dreams” by Bill C.
