Both Sides Now

Cover of 1969 Joni Mitchell song. Chart https://www.sanjoseukeclub.org/Song%2…

I chose this Joni Mitchell song out of the San Jose Ukulele Club’s left-over choices from resurrected songs in the club songbook that had not been played in a while. It was not selected by others. I was surprised it was still there. I was told that I sounded better going high with the vocals for the chorus at the San Jose practice, so I stayed with that. I selected the song on Tuesday and lost practice time Wednesday and Friday due to life stuff. My performance improved at successive venues. I went on Zoom tour to:

Gilroy Ukulele Jam
More Sea Shanties. Linda did “Sea of Love” nicely, Curt did “John Kanaka,” which was also the rounder. Rudy performed “Sloop John B.” Karen reprised “Circle Game” (more Joni). “Pirate Looks At Forty” by Linda, Curt did “Down By the Old Mill.” “Shenandoah” was reprised by Karen with Glen on harmonica. Linda performed “Popeye The Sailor Man.”

Ukulele Rebellion- Bronco Billy’s
Host Melody led “In My Life” and “Imagine” in honor of John Lennon’s birthday. Tom Lehrer’s “Rickety Tickety Tin” was covered by Steve C.
“Oh Bla Di Oh Bla Dah” was led by Pam and Mike, Jeremy simulated a harmonica with his Roland. The seasonal (Halloween) Ghost Chickens in the Sky was led by Eve M. Radio Head’s “Creep” was covered by Mike B. Michael G. led Joe Raposo’s “Sing a Song” known by way of Carpenters and Sesame Street.

San Jose Ukulele Club
Several Beatles songs were performed to honor John Lennon.
“Misty,” new to the songbook by was led by Gillian. “Harvest Moon” led Brian with his niece Amy providing more ukulele on the backing track.
The challenging “Autumn Leaves” was led by Gillian. “Whiskey in the Jar” was led by the Isle of Wight couple Geoff H and Mrs. H. Mrs. G. H. plays left-handed using mirror chords. Geoff added some kazoo. Talking Head’s “Heaven” lead by Brian with niece Amy’s lovely vocals on a backing track. “You’ll Never Walk Alone,” led by Roy. “Crazy” was led by Mike of PA. And many more. The San Jose club gets the most songs included within an hour of any venue. That I like.
