Love Potion Number Nine
One live zoom version and another “studio” version. I sang in a lower register for the studio version. I also got in the 4 beat chords in the intro. I did not want to risk playing them live to make sure of a smooth play along for the participants. Differing ukuleles for comparison. Thanks to Glen for the harmonica at Gilroy and Ukulele Rebellion. Karen, the Gilroy group organizer, suggested this song. I had heard it most of my life, so I did not have to practice to capture the phrasing very much. It was remarked in the Ukulele Rebellion chat that I did a song everyone was familiar with once in a blue moon (like that Halloween night). The zoom meetups featured Halloween themes.

Curt covered the “Scooby-Doo” theme song. Linda covered “Devil and the Deep Blue Sea.” Florence covered “Monster Mash.” Rudy covered “Bad Moon Rising,” Karen covered “Devil or Angel.” The round-robin was “Down by the Grave,” the same as the “Down By the Bay” tune. Curt covered “Purple People Eater,” Karen covered “Devil or Angel,” Kristina played an excellent cover of “I Put a Spell on You.” I saw Screaming Jay Hawkins at an SF nightclub in the late 80s. Quite a performer.

Ukulele Rebellion
Mark covered “Spooky.” In honor of Jerry Jeff Walker, Dean covered “Mr. Bojangles.” Leela covered “Little Red Riding Hood.” “Mysterious Mose” was covered by Disney Mark. Eve covered “Ghost Chickens In The Sky.” “Green Door ” was covered by Tom & Joyce. “Blue Moon” was covered by Scott, with Jeremy synthesizing a harmonica using his Roland. And “Thirteen Nights of Halloween” was a kind of rounder, a similar pattern as the “Twelve Days of Christmas.”
