All hail the Fleshtones! I heard this tribute song to the late Alex Trebek on Little Steven’s Underground Garage, the only channel that matters, and had to cover it. This was also a chance to try out my new ukulele. Santa brought me a Risa tenor solid body steel-string electric (SC-Style CB) because I practice so diligently. It can’t be for any other reason. Well, maybe for providing Rhan with these news updates. Low G. Resembles a Les Paul. I anticipated having to get used to the steel strings, but no problem. The tension at the nut is somewhat less than my two acoustic ukuleles with nylon strings. Very easy to play. The cutaway allows me to play a Bb chord at 15 14 13 13. The ukulele is somewhat under mixed in the recording. I took the song on zoom tour to:
Gilroy Ukulele Jam
“Silent Night” was the rounder with several languages featured, including Mandarin. Glen Baker did a solo on the recorder. Curt reprised “Old toy Train.” Rudy led, “Oh Christmas Tree.” Linda led “Santa Baby” wearing a scandalous shirt. Curt and Karen let a Christmas Song medley. Rudy led “Holly Jolly Christmas.” Karen led “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.” Curt covered “Santa Looked a Lot Like Daddy,” Linda covered “All I Want for Christmas is My Two Front Teeth,” “Must Be Santa” was another rounder.
Ukulele Rebellion
Mark warmed everyone up with “Feliz Navidad” then covered “It’s Christmas Once Again In San Francisco.” Jeanne crossed the pacific with “Mele Kalikimaka.”, the Jenny stayed there with “Jingle Bells Hawaiian.” Lydia covered “Let It Snow.” Jay covered “Mary Did You Know?” a song well suited to Jay’s operatic baritone voice. The lyrics made me wonder at what point in her life was Jesus’ mother addressed. “Candlelight Carol” was covered by Pam & Mike. Mike included a flute solo. Kathryn led “Circle of Steel.” And many more, this is a partial listing.
