Run Run Rudolf
I needed a holiday song for the ukulele jams, so as to not be out of place. I did not see this one in any of the collections, so opportunity knocked. Melody now has my arrangement in her Bronco Billy holiday packet. I 1st remember hearing the song via Keith Richard’s recording, which had something to do with a Canadian drug bust. I play it sans Berry’s signature licks that I will learn someday.. I “bounce” the F to an F7, C5 (0033) to a C7 (3033) and G7 to a Gaug7 (0312) within the rhythm. Note I used the Risa. I read a review of steel-string solid body ukuleles that mentioned the Risa has a zero fret, a fret just ahead of the nut the strings bend over. I checked, and sure enough, there it was. That helps with the intonation and the low string tension at the nut. A pleasant surprise. I took the song on Zoom tour to:

South Bay Acoustic Music Meetup
Jay, the other ukulele player, lent his operatic baritone voice to “Oh Holy Night.” Hobby Horse did an outstanding performance of an Anglo-Gaelic sounding folk song I missed the title of. Ray covered “My Way.”. Suzi covered Ray Charles’ “Teardrops In My Heart.” Mike performed a self-penned song called “Days” about a North West journey. Bob performed another self-penned song, “Midnight Mass,” about his childhood Christmas church going experience. More sardonic than the typical Christmas song. Diana sang Paul Craft’s “Keep Me From Blowing Away.”

Oakland Ukulele Jam
Some of the featured songs were “Wondering Where The Lions Are,” “Where Is The Love,” “Christmas for Cowboys,” “Silver Bells,” “Sea of Heartbreak,” “Happy Xmas (War Is Over),” and “Don’t Get Around Much Anymore.” First Ellington I’ve seen at a ukulele jam. Karen of Gilroy covered “I Want A Hippopotamus for Christmas.” Amy covered “The Tennessee Waltz.”

Gilroy Ukulele Jam
Curt led off with “Jingle Bells.”, Linda followed with “Mele Kalikimaka.” Rounders were “Must Be Santa” and of course “12 Days of Christmas.”. And much more.

Ukulele Rebellion / Bronco Billy
Mary led off with “Jingle Bell Rock,” “Jingle Bells,” and “Holly Jolly Christmas.”
Jeremy covered “Do You Hear What I Hear”, which included Margaret’s spotlighted hula. Lela covered Tom Lehrer’s “A Christmas Carol.”. Mary covered “Toy Land” featuring Jeremy with a melodica solo. Christine covered the increasingly popular “I Want A Hippopotamus For Christmas.” Mary covered “Happy Christmas (War Is Over).” And there was more.
