This was my selected song from the San Jose club’s list. A question came up at the San Jose practice as to what “Moonlight Ladies” meant. It turns out they are “the spirits of the moon, which come out of the sky and shine their lights as the evening darkness falls.” How romantic. I took the song on Zoom tour to:

Gilroy Ukulele Jam
Linda led “Ain’t That a Shame,” Karen led “Aspen Glow,” Curt led the round-robin of “Johnny B Goode,” Linda led “Juliska from Budapest,” Karen led “Snowbird,” and Curt led “Shine On Harvest Moon.” Then came the open mics. Linda covered “Calendar Boy,” a “Calendar Girl” parody, Glen covered “Hello Mary Lou,” Rudy covered “Here Comes The Rain Again,” and Annie covered the Hawaiian flavored “Happy Me.” And there was more.

San Jose Ukulele Club
The club has returned from the holidays. Brian led “Lean On Me,” new to the songbook with his niece Amy on recorded background vocals. Roy led “Are You Lonesome Tonight,” Mike led “Big Rock Candy Mountain,” Chris of Wales led “Red River Valley. Gillian led “Brand New Key” using a banjolele, an instrument well suited to the song. Brian and Jay did a duet with “California Dreaming.” Jeff and Veronica of the Isle of Wight led “I’m Looking Through You.” Evie of Scotland led “Fly Me To The Moon.” “I Think We’re Alone Now” was led by Gillian using a recorded bass line. That song is also new to the songbook. Dennis led Sam Cooke’s “Wonderful World.” Gillian led “It Had To Be You,” Glen led (this is his zoom tour too) “Hello Mary Lou.” Jeff and Veronica led “59th St Bridge Song.” Brian led Paul McCartney’s “Junk.” Mike led “More Today Than Yesterday,” and Amy led “Alway Look On The Bright Side Of Life,” including her great whistling. There was more, but I then had to bail.
