Blindsided

Blindsided cover.

Thanks to Kevin Wacknov for the bass, percussion tracks, and sound check. I heard this Hovvdy song (pronounced howdy) on Pheobe Bridger’s Little Steven’s Underground Garage show. It’s about a missed connection in childhood, perhaps because of a distraction that occurred, wrapped in some nostalgia. That’s my take, anyway. I had not done a waltz in a while. I used my low G Blackbird Farallon, alternating G and C string plucks with strums. Given the small string distance, I found it challenging to get the plucks right. I mostly succeeded. I never got off time, but I sometimes hear myself getting ahead of the beat. What I have is good enough, though. To a positive reception, I premiered this cover at the South Bay Acoustic Music Group Zoom jam. They liked the song and said it was the best I had sounded at that venue. My efforts have not gotten that encouraging attention before. I’m also glad to have introduced Hovvdy to an audience. I used my Kanilea tenor with a capo at the 5th fret to add strums to the instrumental measures. The original has what sounds like keyboard or piano arpeggios. I use GarageBand to record the Kalilea track.
