Don’t Die Curious

Cover of Tom Rosenthal’s “Don’t Die Curious”

The overdue home “studio” version of this song.   There are some live versions (here, with Glen Baker on baritone ukulele, and solos here and here) from a few years ago.  I was doing home recordings of covers at the time, so I thought that doing a live recording would save the trouble.  I have much better recording gear now.  I used Dani Joy’s mosey strum. I can really hear the G string ring out.  Note the Blackbird Farallon’s sound hole cover, which reduces mic volume competition from my voice.   The instrumentals are on the backing track, along with the bass line.   The ukulele sound through the mixer has a pedal equalizer for treble boost and some pedal compression. I used Logic Pro’s equalizer to boost the bass and vocals a little, and the Sonnox Soften plug-in to remove some harshness from the vocals.  The Taylor Mini-E bass provides the bass line, processed by GarageBand to “60s Combo” (boomer nostalgia).   GarageBand provides the drums.
