Halo ‘Round The Moon

“Halo ‘Round the Moon” cover

Actual meteorological phenomenon! A Zoom jam participant remarked that the song serves as a post St. Valentine’s Day letdown ballad.   This song has been on my list to cover.  Ukulele Rebellion’s Lunar New Year theme made it a fit.  Year of the horse, too, but I have no horse songs.  It came out well, after a week of playing it successively at Dani Joy, South Bay Acoustic Music Group, Ukulele Rebellion, and the Monterey Club. All of them Zoom jams.   The Ukulele’s pickup sound gets some compression and equalization (a treble boost), then the mixer channel provides reverb.  The mic provides most of the volume, though.  I use a sound hole cover to give the mixer channel a chance.  I play a Taylor Mini E-Bass on the backing track processed to sound like a ’60s combo using GarageBand.  Interesting to me – I tend to anticipate the beat; I can see it in the GarageBand track alignment, where the bass pulse is landing ahead of the time ruler and trending further ahead as the measures progress. I used GarageBand’s time quantization to snap most of the bass to the ruler, and manually adjusted the bass pulses where it didn’t work.
