Across The Great Divide

Cover of 1980 Kate Wolf song. Chart.

I chose to perform Kate Wolf’s “Across the Great Divide” from San Jose Ukulele Club members’ requested songs. I played Wolf’s “The Redtailed Hawk” three months ago. “Across the Great Divide” is somewhat more rhythmically complex, requiring more practice. Wolf passed away in 1986 and had an outsized impact on folk style music. I took the song around to:

Gilroy-
It was time for “Greatest Hits,” which included “I Just Want To Dance With You,” “Sweet Baby James,” and “That’s Amore.” The rounder was “It Ain’t Gonna Rain No More” with added verses. Curt’s sharing time included a question about past favorite video games.

Here is Mark’s comment on my Ukulele Rebellion note from last week. I miss out on some of the fun when I start to fade and leave the Zoom. I can’t dance all night anymore. I admire those who do. Anyway, here is a partial list of the song played from Mary Cryn’s packet: “Groovin’ (On A Sunday Afternoon),” “Angel from Montgomery,” and “This Land is Your Land.”

“Broke Down Palace,” the Grateful Dead’s Robert Hunter / Jerry Garcia authored song, was played by Brian Wolf with his niece Amy singing on a backing track. 21 songs played were played. These included “Aloha O’e,” “Big Yellow Taxi-,” “Emmylou,” (First Aid Kit’s tribute to Emmylou Harris), “Big Rock Candy Mountain” and “Call the Wind Mariah.”
