Golden Brown

“Golden Brown” cover

A song about a woman with a heck of a tan or heroin? You decide! A somewhat truncated Stranglers cover.  I was unable to strum and sing the vocables simultaneously, so I’ll revisit it another time, perhaps playing the vocal notes on a ukulele, as I have not heard any of the myriad covers do that. I give myself a month to “produce” a song: determining the initial arrangement, playing it at jams and open mics, listening to the recordings, and making a few changes, usually the strumming pattern.  By that time, I’m well practiced for the last jam or open mic and the YouTube upload.  The ukulele sound is split between the mic and a mixer channel that takes the pedal-compressed pickup output. The mixer adds some reverb.  The bass is composed in Logic Pro, which allowed me to create a time signature track to handle the 6/8-to-4/4 changes (or 6/8-to-7/8, according to the sheet music).  The Logic Pro-provided tambourine percussion is appropriately simple. I used the Sonnox Soften plugin for some post-recording adjustments.
