Absolutely Sweet Marie

“Absolutely Sweet Marie” cover

Bob’s the master of the put-down song. Maybe Taylor Swift is catching up. This was one of the first songs I charted: I remember playing it (not very well) years ago at a San Jose Ukulele club Sunday get-together at the New Almaden Community Club. I first heard the Flaming Groovies cover, then checked out the original, and decided to play it myself. Later, when I needed a song for the 2 Rivers Cider jam, I pulled “Marie” from the archive and played it much better, surrounded by guitars and a keyboard. I was thanked for bringing it. More recently, I’ve played it at a Uke West Zoom jam, the Monterey Ukulele Club Zoom jam, and the South Bay Acoustic Music Zoom open mike. The arrangement features the mosey strum, Logic Pro bass using the Staufferian guidelines, and Logic Pro SoCal drums. I enjoyed adding fun with A7 at 6757 and 2535, and D at 7650. To boost and smooth the vocals, I used Logic Pro’s post-processing equalization.
